Western Springs College – Ngā Puna O Waiōrea

In 2019, Western Springs College – Ngā Puna O Waiōrea underwent a major transformation, shifting from traditional classroom layouts to a fully flexible learning environment. The newly constructed three-storey, 6,900m² building—equivalent to 56 classrooms—was designed to support modern teaching methods and collaborative learning practices.

The goal was to furnish a large-scale, future-focused facility that supported both individual and group learning while maintaining flexibility for reconfiguration as needs evolved.

BFG worked closely with the design team to supply a complete furniture solution aligned with the school’s learning vision. Our Media soft seating range featured prominently throughout, helping to define zones for both collaboration and quiet focus learning. Tables were fitted with castors to enable easy movement and reconfiguration, giving educators the ability to adapt spaces for different teaching styles and group sizes. The delivery time frame on this project was tight with our manufacturing and upholstery team producing 120 seating units is just under 5 weeks.

The completed spaces provide a flexible, student-friendly atmosphere that encourages collaboration, comfort, and connection. From modular soft seating to custom tables and leaners, each piece was designed to meet the needs of both teachers and learners while contributing to the cultural and modern identity of the school.

The two new blocks will mean that the total number of teaching spaces at the college will be 81 including 17 existing teaching spaces that are being upgraded and re-purposed.  BFG are always thrilled to work on Education project.
