Carlaw Park Stage 3

Stuart McCutcheon House is a high quality student accommodation facility added into the overall University of Auckland Carlaw Park Student Accommodation Accommodation precinct of over 1600 bedrooms.

Stuart McCutcheon House first opened in January 2023, providing 907 beds in three- to five-bedroom apartments. There is also very limited availability for six-bedroom apartments. This Self-Catered Residence is available for undergraduate students in their second year and above and postgraduate students. 

The University wanted to roll out a similar look and feel to stages 1 and 2  and to leverage their knowledge gained from the successful earlier stages of the precinct to create a leading accommodation facility with huge accommodation capacity but also a strong focus on student community within the facility, providing more  communal spaces, adding elements such as cinema rooms, gaming areas, retail, communal kitchens, music rooms, study spaces encouraging a more community and feeling of belonging.

After successfully executing and completing full furniture supply and fitouts of Carlaw Park Stage 1 and 2, BFG were awarded the overall contract to manufacture and supply the furniture requirements across the entire building and zones covering a whole wide range of furniture items. 

We provided specific furniture prototypes and items were either tested or selected by the client based on student feedback and how the furniture had stood up in previous accommodation environments.

For the latest stage of the Carlaw Park student village, and to meet the overall building opening date of February 2023 we commenced delivery an installation onsite in November 2022 delivering the bedroom furniture and wardrobes.

Delivery was rolled out floor by floor over a 3 month period ensuring an entire floor was completed before moving up to the next, with common space areas and ground floor areas being fitted out in the final stages. Our teams worked alongside the main contractor Haydn & Rollett as the site was still under construction and the big push was on to meet the completion date for new student intake.

Delivery and installation of all furniture items across the entire building and zones was completed on time prior to opening and to budget.

Stuart McCutcheon House is a successful modern student accommodation environment. The building received the Gold and BIM awards at the 2024 New Zealand Commercial Project Awards and won the "Multi-Unit Residential, Best in Category" award at the 2023 Property Council NZ award, winning several property and commercial project awards for its design, functionality, and use of technology. 

It has also been praised for its collaborative design process that incorporated student feedback and its high occupancy rate, achieving 98.2% by move-in day in 2023.
