The Goal

To support the delivery of AUT’s WZ Building — a landmark, future-focused facility at the City Campus designed to bring together the School of Engineering, Computer and Mathematical Sciences under one roof.

How We Went About It

BFG worked closely with AUT and the project team to manufacture, supply, and deliver furniture solutions that aligned with the scale, complexity, and performance requirements of the WZ Building.

With 18,000m² across 9 levels, the project required detailed planning and coordination to ensure all furniture was produced, scheduled, and delivered in line with the construction programme. Leveraging our New Zealand-based manufacturing capability, we were able to maintain quality control, manage lead times, and respond efficiently to project demands as they evolved.

Furniture was manufactured with a strong focus on durability and longevity, recognising the high-use nature of a tertiary education environment. Materials and finishes were carefully selected to withstand daily wear while complementing the building’s modern, services-exposed aesthetic.

Given the variety of spaces — from collaborative learning areas to focused study zones — we delivered a range of fit-for-purpose furniture solutions that support flexible use and adaptability over time.

Our team coordinated staged deliveries and installation across multiple levels, ensuring minimal disruption and seamless integration with other trades on site. From manufacturing through to final placement, BFG maintained a hands-on approach to ensure a consistent, high-quality outcome.

Turn Out

BFG’s furniture plays a key role in enabling flexible, student-centric spaces throughout the building — from collaborative zones to informal learning areas — all designed to support interaction, adaptability, and day-to-day functionality.

By leveraging local manufacturing, BFG delivered a consistent, high-quality outcome across all 12 levels, ensuring durability and longevity in a demanding tertiary environment. The ability to manufacture locally also allowed for greater control over quality, programme, and responsiveness throughout the project.

The completed WZ Building reflects a strong alignment between design intent and delivery — providing AUT with a cohesive, fit-for-purpose environment that will support students and staff for years to come.
